2007 ascetics’ photos

- a completely unedited look at the 2007 Ardha Kumbh Mela in Prayag (Allahabad) and Shivaratri in Varanasi, through the eyes of 21 different photographers, all various level members of Juna Akhara – Most of the photographs were shot on Kodak disposable cameras, though some advanced on to using 35mm point and shoots, while others borrowed digital cameras from our media mentors.

 

The only instruction given was the basics: where to look through the viewfinder, where to press the shutter button, how to initiate the flash and how to advance the film.
